A nearly lost art form from the 1700's -Hand-Cut Silhouettes- is now making a comeback in the 21st century!
Started as a popular alternative to expensive commissioned oil portraits in the 1700's, the art of silhouette cutting pre-dates photography by about 100 years, and is considered a precursor to the modern-day portrait photograph.
Done exclusively with scissors and without the aid of pen ink, or tracing, it became a popular way of capturing an individuals' likeness, as well as a practical way of keeping family records.
Although regaining popularity, this precious artform is still hard to find: only a handful of of artists in the world still practice it today in its original, purest form.
Kathryn Flocken began her silhouette artist career in 1989, and has worked throughout most of Central Florida's major theme parks.
Kathryn travels all over the country cutting silhouettes at special events, and has also been featured on national television demonstrating this rare, and fascinating artform.
Kathryn also makes custom silhouette portraits from a photo- of you, your children, or even your pets! She can also be commissioned for an original hand-cut work of art made to your personal specifications.
